Believers everywhere are always quick to acknowledge that Jesus is their Savior, and rightly so. They sing songs about being redeemed, sanctified, and bing made a new creation. You might be surprised however if you ever ask a random group of believers, what they are actually saved from, and what being “a new creation” actually is.

Today we will be taking a look at what being “saved” truly means, and what the benefits of Jesus’ sacrifice has actually afforded us.

Our scripture today is from Galatians 3:13-14, and it reads:

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangs on a tree:
That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”

So we can see here immediately that the thing which Christ Jesus has redeemed us from is the “Curse of the Law”; that is the curse of sin which the Old Covenant Laws impart upon us.

Now we can read all abut the details of the curses starting in Deuteronomy 28:15, and we have studied them in the past because it is important to know our spiritual rights and freedoms – and I would encourage the new visitors here to listen to or read that teaching as well – but it is sufficient for this teaching today simply to acknowledge that Christ has saved us from these things.

The work of Christ, that divine exchange in which He took upon Himself all of our sins and gave us all of His righteousness, has completely done away with the curse of sin. This fact goes unnoticed by the majority of believers today. Far too often we see believers claim to be set free and redeemed, but they still are chained to their old curses. They don’t understand that when Christ did away with their sins, their punishment and curses of sin were also done away with.

If Christ paid for their sins, if Christ was punished in their place, why do they still feel the need to suffer punishment?

My friends, as believers in Christ I am here today to tell you that your curse is lifted!

You no longer have to be punished, because Jesus has taken your place on the cross.

That disease which has taken you, can trouble you no longer.
That oppression that holds you can no longer disturb your mind.
That addiction that chains you, must be loosed in the name of Jesus.

Realize  your status as a new creation in Christ. The old law is done away with, and the new covenant of grace has come.

It is given to us for free. It is not cheap, because Christ paid a high price for it; but freely given by Him who loves us as His own.

Those who would reject this message often do so out of some sense of morality or guilt – fearing that it would drive people to sin more. (I felt this way too at one time) but a genuine love and appreciation for what Christ Jesus has done and who He is will actually birth in us a natural resistance to sin that does not require work.

When you truly love Jesus, you naturally will not sin, and you are constantly reminded that you are cleansed of all unrighteousness.

Rejoice daily that your sins are forgiven and the curse is lifted!
