Recently I had a question asked of me, if Jesus healed us of
all diseases, why do I sometimes experience symptoms still?

While it could be said that the very question itself demonstrates a lack of faith, I do understand the reason for the question and I will answer it today.

In honesty, the question is one that I have wondered myself in the past, and to answer it we first must establish the basic fact that Jesus has indeed healed us of all sicknesses and diseases! The following scriptures state it plainly:

“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” (1st Peter 2:23)

Notice firstly that the verse states we were healed! That is past-perfect tense meaning something that was done in the past and never needs to be repeated. I can not even begin to tell you how many times I have read that scripture and failed to truly understand its meaning before!

The next verses are Matthew 8:16-17:

“When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.”

Anyone who truly understands the sacrifice on the cross by Jesus, must understand that He became cursed in our place so that we no longer have to live under the curse of sin!

He took our infirmities and our sicknesses (curses of sin) upon Himself so that we no longer have to live with such things! Again this is something I herd in times past many times before, but it was like it flew right over my head and I never really grabbed hold of it.

The last verse I am going to point out (there are others beyond still) is Galatians 3:13-14:

“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”

And that last line is hints at the answer to the question of this article, that we might receive the promise through faith.

The question is why do we still feel symptoms of things we are healed from? The answer is they are simply “afterglows”… Turn on a bright light… look at the bulb, and then turn it off… notice the after-effect of the light, or as it is called, the afterglow?

That is the same with our healed diseases. Once we believe our healing and truy trust in the Lord and have genuine faith in Him and all of His promises (see: Knowing vs. Knowing Of) then we can grab our healing and know that any  lingering symptoms are merely afterglows. Don’t let the enemy hoodwink you into believing that you are stil sick or that the promises of God are no more, or of no effect anymore!

Stay connected to Him and receive all of His good gifts.
