There are several places in the Bible where the imagery is used of a debt being paid… Luke 7:41-42 is such an example. Now we are not going to look at this scripture specifically, but instead we are going to examine the principle of debt cancellation and the very real very large debt that was cancelled for us by Jesus Christ.

This may seem like a topic too simple compared to what we have been previously studying, but I can assure you that it is most vital to our success because until we can fully grasp the reality of what Christ cancelled for us we cannot appropriate it in our lives.

What I mean by that statement  is precisely what it implies… if we do not
understand what exactly Jesus paid for, we can not fully believe it, and
because of that we do not see it manifest for us.

This leads us to the second proviso that these things are only for believers of Christ. If you are not a believer in Christ Jesus, this is what you are missing out on right now, and this is what you can have if you put your faith in Him.

Now I feel that it is important to explain these last two things in a bit more detail, so I will use the following example:

Imagine that a very wealthy person writes you a check, a check large enough to ensure your complete and total provision and ease of living for the rest of your life.

Now imagine that he hands you the check, you have three choices:

You could take the check to the bank and deposit it into your account, You could wait and put off cashing the check until some more convenient time, but never knowing when it will be too late.

Or you could laugh it off as some kind of prank and ignore the offer entirely.

There are people who have chosen each of those three choices, and it is their God given right to do so… the rich man will never force his money on someone who doesn’t really want it.

Unlike physical debt through our spiritual debt can never be fully paid by ourselves, and we are eternally curse without a savior, so the
choice for us is ultimately life or death.

Like the example above, the solution has been placed before us, but we are still required to “take it to the bank and cash it” – and this
is where many believers miss it today.

So what is this taking it to the bank and cashing it actually mean? It means to fully comprehend and understand the sacrificial work of Jesus to the point where no doubt exists, and the reason many believers are falling short of this today is the lack of preachers to preach and teach these truths to their congregations.

And because people are not properly rooted in the truth, they tend to give in at the first sign of resistance from the enemy.

An example of this of this is in the area of God’s promise to provide for us… Okay now the Bible scripture for this is actually quite numerous, but probably the most often quoted and the most famous is Philippians 4:19 which is the following:

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Now this scripture quite plainly states that the riches and supply come by Christ Jesus meaning that without being in Him, there is no supernatural Godly supply, but many are not taught that, and therefore do not understand or take hold of it.

Therefore when the enemy comes and plants a thought such as “Look at your bank account, it’s empty, and you’re a Christian, so this whole god thing is a sham; it doesn’t work!”… Many crumble to that attack because they are not properly taught, and do not understand.

I would like to encourage you today to open your mind to this truth… if there is an area that you are being attacked in, regardless of what it is, I would advise you to seek Christ in that area. Jesus Christ can cover every area of your life, big and small. This is why continuing to learn and study and seek Christ is important every day, because it is vital that Christ be unveiled completely for us to be successful and totally victorious.

Next week we will examine some specific things that Christ has purchased for us by His sacrifice, all backed with scripture.
